Matthew Short is a prolific right-handed top‑order batter and handy off‑spin bowler for Victoria. He burst onto the scene via standout performances in the 2014 Under‑19 World Cup, where he was Australia’s second‑highest run‑scorer with 237 runs.
After debuting for Victoria in 2014–15 and a standout century (134* and 4/103) for Cricket Australia XI in 2017, Short has since been a Sheffield Shield mainstay and hit a career-best 623 runs and 10 wickets in the 2022–23 season.
Internationally, Short debuted in both T20Is (Aug 2023) and ODIs (Sep 2023), notched a 66‑ball fifty in T20Is, and claimed a five‑for (5/22) in a T20I against England.
