Refugee Week Indoor Cricket carnival back for 2018

Cricket Victoria and Refugee Week will again come together on Saturday, June 23 for the 2018 Refugee Week Indoor Cricket carnival.

The inaugural event last year was an overwhelming success with over 50 participants and 11 teams participating in the one-day event. This year the event moves to Cricket Victoria’s new home at the CitiPower Centre at Junction Oval inside the new two-court Indoor Centre.

The Refugee Week Indoor Cricket Carnival celebrates 2018 National Refugee week by providing non-profit refugee and resettlement organisations the opportunity to enter six-a-side teams representing their respective organisations.

Cricket Victoria’s Multicultural Participation Officer Hussain Hanif said it is great to see the event go into its second year.

“Sport provides a great opportunity for refugees to meet and build friendships with other Australians, as well as to learn about life in Australia and to share aspects of themselves and their background,” said Hanif.

“It is exciting to be able to bring these organisations together in an inclusive, safe and fun environment through Indoor Cricket, and we are really excited to be able to bring these communities to our new Indoor Centre at the CitiPower Centre at Junction Oval.”

Non-Profit Refugee and Resettlement Organisations can register their team of six by contacting Hussain Hanif directly at hhanif@cricketvictoria.com.au or 9085 4034.
