Sanga proves a hit

Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara stepped away from his busy schedule yesterday to mentor some young budding cricketers at the Harmony in Cricket clinic at Monash University.

Run in conjunction with the Young Cricketers Development Program, the Harmony in Cricket clinic saw around 50 children interact in various games and activities.

While posing for photos and signing autographs, the injured Test great made his way around the activities, lending advice to the young players.

“I think kids taking up the sport at a young age is important,” Sanagakkara said.

“It’s important to be able to give something back to them and encourage them in whatever way we can.”

Sangakkara also took some time to speak to Victoria’s next generation of cricketers before the quarter-finals of the Under-18 Victorian Bushrangers Pathway Championships.

Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers spinner Clive Rose and VicSpirit’s Briana Binch were also in attendance, assisting with the running of activities.

The Harmony in Cricket clinic embodied the message that cricket is a game for everyone, with people from a range of cultural backgrounds participating throughout the day.
