Umpiring Opportunities

The Umpire Manager will be in charge of the appointments of Umpires in our Mens, Womens, Juniors and VMCU Representative Competition’s, as well as educating the Umpires on the various rules and formats within these Competitions. NMCA – Umpire Manager’s List of Duties Under the general direction of the General Manager, manage the North Metro Cricket Umpire Program. This includes: • Undertake an ongoing review of the current structure and operations as it applies to umpires and make recommendations on areas for structural and/or operational improvement. • Recruit and develop Umpires for the Association. • Utilise the NMCA approved database provider (My Cricket or Play HQ) to allocate and assess umpires in accordance with Association policy. • Create a framework of benchmarks for reviewing umpire assessment. • Assist with the development of on-line procedures for umpires on match and misconduct reports. • Identify group’s strengths/weaknesses to improve. • Create a template for match day that all must follow covering basics e.g. arrival time, how to prepare wickets, time to toss, dress standard, how to communicate in a professional manner. • Promote a consistent and uniform approach by umpires that will be evident at all levels. • Educate umpires on local bylaws. • Provide Umpires with feedback on their performances. • Communicate openly with Club’s at all levels and create positive relationships. • Schedule & lead regular umpire meetings. • Regularly report to the Board on key indicators including umpire numbers, performance and positive and negative feedback from the Clubs. This includes Club’s who continue to give inconclusive feedback. • Communicate with and assist the Operations managers with any special requests by way of appointments they may require. Remuneration Package: The successful candidate can utilise the NMCA website and social media for purposes that will benefit and improve the NMCA members. The NMCA Umpires Manager will be paid an annual honorarium for this role.

The North Metro Cricket Association seek applications for the role of Umpires Advisor /Manager for the season 2023/24.

The season started on 29th April and will go on until last week of July with finals to follow in August. MYCA currently offers Juniors (U-14), Women's Senior & Men's Senior on the weekend. MYCA games are played all over Metro Melbourne - Stretching inward from Officer in South East, Chirnside Park in East, Donnybrook in North & Wyndham Vale in West. The following are the playing days and umpire fees:
  • Juniors - Umpire fees is $100
    • 2 grades of 25 overs - start time of 1 PM Sunday
    • 3 grades of  30 overs  - Start time of 11 AM Sunday
  • Women's Senior - Umpire Fees is $80
    • 1 grade of 6 teams - with start times of 10 AM & 1.30 PM on Saturdays
    • Competition is T20 rules
  • Men Senior - Umpire Fees is $120
    • 15+ grades across both Saturdays & Sundays
    • 35 overs games with start time at 12 PM.

The Association has over 200 men’s and women’s teams that compete on Saturdays and Sundays.

In 2022, the Association had 85 registered umpires.

The selected person must have:

  • An excellent knowledge of the Laws of Cricket
  • An excellent knowledge of the Rules of Mid Year CA.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Solid people management skills.

Expectations:

  • Organise and deliver a preseason Umpire’s meeting covering rules changes and queries in March/April 2023.
  • Answer any umpire queries on Match Days prior to play commencing.
  • Review Captains reports after each Round in 2023 (9 Rounds plus two weeks of finals).
  • Contact Captains by email or mobile phone for any clarification of their umpire’s reports.
  • Offer feedback from these reports to umpires as required.
  • Liaise with Umpires appointment officer to finalise umpire’s appointment during finals.

Renumeration negotiable.
