Under-18s to play for national title

Victoria will clash with New South Wales in Ballarat today in the final of the Under-18 National Championships.

Having finished the preliminary rounds with a 5-1 record, courtesy of a 50-run victory over Queensland yesterday, the hosts will attempt to claim its first title at the carnival since 2000-01, ending the Blues’ eight-year rein in the process.

Having won the toss and batted against Queensland, Julia Crockett-Grills led the way as she top-scored with 71 from 81 deliveries including six boundaries.

Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit rookie Kate Dempsey and skipper Sarah Chancellor-Goddard provided great support, with the pair each posting 42, the former from 70 balls and the later requiring just 41.

As a result, Victoria accumulated 9-238 from its 50 overs and successfully defended the totalwith an even spread of performances from the bowling group.

While the usual suspects were in the wickets, Kyra Black (1-17) and Charlotte Killeen (1-16) were both thrown the Kookaburra and responded with their first wickets of the tournament.

Victoria will clash with NSW at Eastern Oval from 10am today for the national title.
