Under-19 World Cup spots up for grabs

Victoria will commence its campaign against South Australia today, with Chappell, Cricket Australia’s National Talent Manager, on hand with CA High Performance Coach, Graeme Hick, to scout the talent on display.

“This is the last tournament for our under-19 players to stake their claim for Australian selection for next year’s Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup,” Chappell said.

“I’m looking forward to watching the continued progress of our emerging players throughout the tournament, as our Youth Selection Panel continues our preparation for the fast-approaching Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup.

“The level of talent in our under-19 program is strong and selecting a team that will challenge for the World Cup will be highly competitive.

“Our Australian Under-19s have been tested in a variety of conditions over the last 12 months, which will bode well for the challenging conditions expected in Dubai next year. They have toured New Zealand, Darwin and India, as well as spending time in Brisbane during the winter season, in order to expose them to challenges faced at international level.”

Victoria appears well placed to feature prominently at the tournament after claiming last year’s Under-17 National Championships title with an unbeaten record.

Under-19 Australian representatives Ben Ashkenazi, Matt Fotia, Matt Short and Guy Walker have all been included in the squad, along with Toyota Futures League spinner Ejaaz Alavi.

The Under-19 National Championships will be staged in Hobart from December 2 to 12 with live scores available by following @CVPathway on Twitter.
