Wyndham crowned 2012 champs

Six teams competed in the round-robin competition that eventually saw Wyndham take home the inaugural Merbein and District Community Bank-Bendigo Bank Perpetual Trophy.

Held at the Mildura Senior College, the day saw the Warracknabeal Warriors, Grampians and Wyndham join the Mallee Duststormers and two teams from the Mildura Specialist School to compete in the two-day tournament.

“The day went really well,” Cricket Victoria Regional Cricket Manager Andrew Farlie said.

“There was plenty of excitement and everyone had a good time.”

As well as a new trophy and a new addition of teams, the All Abilities Carnival also had a change in schedule.

For the first time in three years, 2012 saw the event take place mid-week.

“This year is the third year we have run the carnival but it’s the first time we have run it mid-week, which has proven to be very popular,” Farlie said.

“It’s been easier to get everyone involved as a group and it’s great to see the carers as well as the family members involved.”

Mildura Specialist School’s Alex Beverley and Duststorm’s Amanda Doolan were respectively named the male and female players of the tournament.
