Record crowd attends derby

46,581 people were on hand to see Victorian favourite and Renegades captain Aaron Finch lead his side to a comfortable victory with a Man-of-the-Match performance of 67 from 47 deliveries.

The attendance broke the previous record of 43,125 which was set in January, 2010 between Victoria and Tasmania.

The top-three crowds for domestic T20 matches have all been at the home of cricket including last year’s inaugural derby, which remains the only time the Stars have prevailed over the Renegades, drawing 40,227 through the gates.

The game will be remembered for the increasing rivalry between the two sides which saw three players, Shane Warne, Marlon Samuels and Cameron White face disciplinary action today.

The Renegades’ nine-wicket win secures a home semi-final to be played at Etihad Stadium next week.

The Stars will be able to book their spot in the final with a victory over the winless Sydney Thunder tomorrow night at the MCG.
