Stars and Renegades support bushfire relief at MCG derby

In partnership with Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and the KFC Big Bash League, we acknowledge the fundamental importance of our community to what we do in cricket. Few people in our community are doing it tougher at the moment than the courageous firefighters working around the clock to protect our family, friends, homes and broader community.

At Saturday’s match:

  • As a mark of respect for the active fire emergency, there will be no fireworks displays throughout the match
  • Fans will be asked to join players and officials in observing a moment’s silence prior to the match for those who have lost their lives in the current bushfire emergency.
  • Fans will be asked to contribute to bushfire relief efforts through the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund at redcross.org.au/cricket

Melbourne Renegades signed jerseys from Thursday night’s BBL match are also being auctioned to raise funds.

A number of players have also committed to personal donations during the BBL.

Cricket Victoria CEO Andrew Ingleton said it was important to recognise the major challenges facing many Victorians in the current conditions.

“It’s a very tough time for so many people in our state right now and I encourage everyone to make a contribution tomorrow night in support of the work that is being done to protect life and property and helping the people and communities that are impacted by the fires,” Ingleton said.

“To those who have already contributed in so many different ways, as a community we say thank you for everything you have done. Our thoughts are with everyone in those communities and we extend our deepest sympathies to people who have lost loved ones in the fires.”
