New $250k Canteen Fund improving cricket club electrical safety

The new program was launched by Cricket Victoria and major partner and distribution network, CitiPower, today.

As part of a whole of cricket partnership, CitiPower and Cricket Victoria are offering up to $50,000 to be distributed annually through the Canteen Grant program between 2019-2023. This is the first of a multi-year program promoting the importance of electrical safety in cricket clubs.

CitiPower Chief Executive Officer, Tim Rourke, said old electrical appliances and infrastructure could impact on the reliability and cost of electrical services to club facilities but raising the funds to upgrade them could be difficult.

“Clubs will be able to apply for grants of up to $5,000 which can go a long way to cover the cost of sourcing local electricians and new appliances,” Mr Rourke said.

“Ultimately this means better services for the volunteers, members and their guests who rely on the club facilities on game days or for events.”

Regional and metropolitan clubs within the CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy distribution network areas will be able to apply for grants to replace or upgrade electrical appliances, electrical wiring and power boards and switchboards or related infrastructure.

Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer Andrew Ingleton said the grants program would be a welcome boost for many Victorian clubs.

“This is a great new program and something that speaks to the heart of community cricket clubs across our state. There are constant challenges in maintaining club canteens and equipment and it’s a really good initiative that we’re proud to to work with CitiPower in addressing,” Ingleton said.

Applications for the first round of funding are now open until 12 March 2019. To apply for the CitiPower and Cricket Victoria Canteen Grant visit: https://www.cricketvictoria.com.au/citipower-canteen-grant/
