A new beginning

Wanting to embrace the community, the club will launch its new identity at the event, holding junior cricket clinics as well as a six-aside 12-over game.

Over recent months, the club has taken a stance in changing its nature, embracing the Harmony in Cricket message and making a commitment to become more involved in the community.

Led by coach Liam McFadden, the club has focused on using sport as a vehicle to break barriers within the community.

“For us to thrive and survive this is what we needed to do,” McFadden said.

Based in an area with an ethnic and low-socioeconomic demographic, the Colts have chosen three qualities to embody; accountability, responsibility and ownership.

Hoping to filter these qualities to the community, the club has used Harmony in Cricket to help its transition by adopting the philosophy and using the logo on its uniform.

“The Harmony in Cricket logo starts a conversation,” McFadden said.

“A lot of refugees and new migrants know what the logo is and now when they see it, they come and speak to us.”

In partnership with Banyule Youth Services, the day will also see Banyule Mayor Craig Langdon in attendance to show his support for the club.

Following the event, the community is invited to stay and watch the Olympics Colts and Cobras Cricket Club battle it out for the inaugural Harmony in Cricket Shield.

Harmony in Cricket Gala Day details:
When: Saturday, January 11, 2014.
Where: Olympic Park, Catalina Street, Heidelberg West
