Celebrating Diwali

Cricket Victoria will be joined by KFC T20 Big Bash League cross-town rivals, Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars, for the annual festival of lights hosted by Celebrate India.

Hosting a marquee at the free event, two Australian Women’s Cricket World Cups will be on display, Starman and Sledge will be in attendance and there will be plenty of competitions on offer as well as giveaways.

Commonwealth Bank Bushranger Jake Reed will also make an appearance at the event from 5pm and will be on stage for a Q & A session.

As a part of the festivities, Federation Square will be engulfed with the rich colours of India and will produce a cultural blast to cater for all ages.

The festival will also feature arts and crafts workshops, face painting, a variety of cuisines, music, Bollywood dances and more.

A fireworks display at the banks of the Yarra will close the event at 9:30pm.

Diwali, or Deepavali, is a five-day festival generally celebrated between mid-October and mid-November.

During Diwali, small clay lamps are lit to drive away evil spirits and to welcome the goddess Lakshmi.

Cricket Victoria, Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars will be at Federation Square on Saturday from 12pm.
