CitiPower & Cricket Victoria Canteen Grant now open

Clubs can use the funds for replacing or upgrading electrical appliances, electrical wiring and power boards, switchboards or related infrastructure to safely provide quality services.

In early 2019 the first round of funding saw more than 60 applications. Ultimately clubs providing evidence of an immediate electrical safety issue during the application process were prioritised.

In a local example, Balmoral Cricket Club in Ascot Vale received a total of $4,200 to replace a refrigerator held together by tape and the upgrade of a coffee machine which broke down in 2018.

“We’ve had to put off upgrading faulty appliances for a long time. We’re a small club struggling to field teams at times and we just didn’t have the money to replace appliances which should have been thrown out a long time ago. Having the new fridge and coffee machine rejuvenates our club rooms, creating an environment for players to now want to stay back after games,” Club President William Patmore said.

CitiPower Field Leader Jim Samarniotis said it was pleasing to see the positive impact the program was having on local clubs.

“The first thing you see when you approach the club rooms is the old fridge which was held together by sticky tape – a hazard waiting to happen. Through our grant the club have been able to start the season with a brand-new fridge and big smiles on their faces,” he said.

Cricket Victoria CEO Andrew Ingleton praised the program. “We recognise the challenges in maintaining club canteens and equipment and this program continues to prioritise the safety of our cricket community and the good order of club facilities for the enjoyment of everyone,” Ingleton said.

Regional and metropolitan clubs within the CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy distribution network areas will once again be able to apply for grants to replace or upgrade electrical appliances, electrical wiring and power boards, switchboards or related infrastructure.
