Cricket Victoria delveoping young leaders through Girls Leadership Program

Over 120 young girls from across the region attended the day in which participants were treated to breakfast before embarking on leadership workshops sessions. These sessions provided them with the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, focusing on building confidence and resilience, as well as exploring their leadership style. They were also able to participate in pilates and social sixes cricket sessions, demonstrating the importance of living and maintaining an active lifestyle.

Former Australian netballer, Bianca Chatfield was the keynote speaker for the day. Drawing on her 17 years as an elite athlete and leader on the court, she is extreamly relatable and a strong role model for young women to connect to.  “I really love the leadership space, I feel like you can have such an impact. You learn so much through being an athlete yourself so it’s nice to share experiences with other people and get them to understand that we all go through it, the highs and the lows. It’s not all about the glory time, that’s for sure”

Of the day, Bianca was keen to ensure the girls took away some valuable insights. “What do they want to do, where do they want to go in the future, understanding their strengths and weaknesses and how they can play a role in what they do next”.

Teachers were also provided the opportunity to take part in a professional development session with Bianca alongside understanding applications of cricket coaching within schools.

The Girls Leadership Program is fundamental to Cricket Victoria’s strategy of supporting women and girls to love cricket. For more information on the Girls Leadership Program, click here.
