Letter to Victorian cricket community – Cricket Victoria CEO

For many clubs and associations right across Victoria, it has been a very challenging month.

Victoria’s recent heavy rainfall and flooding have had impacts right across metropolitan and regional communities.

We’ve seen extensive damage to grounds, cricket facilities and clubrooms and for those clubs fortunate to have avoided floods, grounds have been simply too wet to prepare for competition.

Given all your hard work to be ready for your seasons, I understand this can be disheartening.

But just as it has over the last two years, cricket will bounce back. We are also under no illusions about how much work is required to make that happen.

Our primary objective is working with clubs and associations and with local, state and federal government to bring you the support needed and advocate strongly on your behalf.

To this point, Cricket Victoria welcomes the announcement from the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments of additional assistance to sporting clubs directly affected by the recent floods through the Business and Community Sport Flood Recovery Grants program.

Clubs can apply for up to $50,000 through the Flood Recovery Fund. We encourage clubs to continue to monitor Sport and Recreation Victoria’s website for updates for program eligibility and opening dates: https://sport.vic.gov.au/

We’re also here to support clubs and associations with a range of advice in reshaped seasons and the unique circumstances some competitions are facing.

I know how much we’re all looking forward to getting out on the park and I hope this weekend is the beginning of clearer skies ahead.

Chief Executive Officer, Cricket Victoria
