Maribyrnong City Council Launch

Helmot and Short was in attendance along with CV’s General Manager of Game and Market Development Rohan O’Neill and Maribyrnong City Council’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Nam Quach, who promoted the Active Maribyrnong Junior Cricket Participation Grants Program and the first All-Girls MILO In2Cricket program in Maribyrnong.

Helping to increase participation opportunities, the grants program will offer new participants a 75% registration fee discount for any junior cricket program within Maribyrnong while also providing an additional $40 uniform grant to all junior cricket club participants with a family Healthcare Card.

“In the lead up to the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, it’s great to see that, Maribyrnong City Council, the Victorian Government and CV, have been able to support participation opportunities with an objective to remove cost as a barrier,” O’Neill said.

“It’s a great initiative and hopefully clubs in the area will jump on board.”

Participants can apply for the grants through their local club.

Also on the day, CV and the Council launched the area’s first All-Girls MILO In2Cricket program, encouraging girls aged five to 13 to get involved.

Commencing on October 21, the six-week program, held at Merv Hughes Oval, will focus on skills and drills and modified matches.

“We want to give girls with the opportunity to play cricket at all levels and having this program in place will help do that,” O’Neill said.

“Again, it’s been great to work with Council on furthering participation opportunities for females in the area.”

The All-Girls MILO In2Cricket program will be among the fitness activities at the free Spring into Summer Series.
