This week is important in Cricket Victoria’s calendar of events as it celebrates deaf people, language, culture, and community.
This year Deaf Children Australia are seeking Australians of all ages to participate in the week by learning how to sign ‘Hello, my name is’ and their name in Auslan. At Cricket Victoria a number of staff and community cricket volunteers have committed to learning Auslan this year and we have also recently become a Bronze member of the Australian Network on Disability to strengthen our connection and learnings on how to support people with a disability.
We encourage our cricket community to engage and support Deaf Children Australia’s campaign by recording yourself signing – “Hello, my name is” and share your post on your club social media pages and please tag @DeafChildrenAustralia #dcahellomynameis @cricketvictoria #cricketvictoria
This week is National Week of Deaf People and today, 23 September is International Day of Sign Languages.
As we celebrate deaf people, language, culture and community I encourage you all to lend support to Deaf Children Australia and engage in the ‘Hello, my name is’ campaign.
Post your videos here and let’s raise awareness about deaf language and culture.
