Stars celebrate Harmony

Celebrating the message that cricket is a game for everyone, the Stars will host a range of activities to promote diversity in cricket.

Prior to the match, the male and female Victorian Imparja Cup squads will receive their caps on the hallowed turf.

Melbourne Stars President Eddie McGuire, Senior Wurundjer Elder, Aunty Joy Wandin-Murphy and Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit captain Kelly Applebee will all be in attendance to present the caps.

Through the GLoBALL program, the night will also see the Stars host 500 international students at their first game of cricket, as well as the Moorabbin Cricket Club’s disability cricket team.

A Harmony in Cricket activity hub will also be available on the MCG concourse for people of all ages and abilities.

Throughout the year, the Stars have shown their commitment to Victorian community cricket, leading the way on a range of initiatives.

Supporting Indigenous cricket, InfoReady Imparja Cup captain Ben Abbatangelo was awarded with the Stars’ Community Rookie contract.

With assistance from Mitsubishi Motors, Chemist Warehouse and health.com.au, the Stars bolstered the Cricket Australia community contract to create a 12-month Indigenous scholarship to continue Abbatangelo’s development.

Also this season, the Stars released their Learn Cricket app, assisting new spectators in learning about Twenty20 cricket.

The fun and interactive app aims to engage the wider and diverse community, currently featuring in the “Best New Apps” section of the iTunes App Store.

The Stars will continue to spread the Harmony in Cricket message when activities commence at 5pm tomorrow, with the Victorian Imparja Cup cap presentation occurring at 6:30pm.
