The power and the passion

Referring to cricket as “the greatest game on Earth”, Allcock was rewarded for his passion last week when he was announced as the recipient of the All Abilities Maribyrnong Council Award.

Allcock, who has an intellectual disability, embodies the Harmony in Cricket mantra, showing that cricket is a game for everyone by devoting countless hours to all abilities cricket.

“It’s great to see that John’s commitment to cricket has been acknowledged,” Cricket Victoria’s Chief Executive Officer Tony Dodemaide said.

“He is a true representation of the Harmony in Cricket message.”

More than 20 years ago, Allcock became a member of the Maribyrnong All Abilities Indoor Cricket team and has since played in multiple premierships.

Attending the ceremony with brothers Michael and Brian, Allcock proudly notes his best batting performance was in the1996 semi-final when he scored 52 from four overs.

Throughout the years, Allcock has developed both his cricketing and leadership skills, quickly becoming a mentor at the club.

Along with organising the weekly competition, Allcock has become a spokesperson for the club when travelling across state.

He is also considered to be a mediator at the club and is responsible for the carrying out of weekly duties including arranging and packing equipment and team shirt allocations.

Cricket Victoria would like to congratulate John Allcock on receiving the All Abilities Maribyrnong Council Award.
