Queen Mother of Bhutan visit

Cricket Without Borders, the Melbourne Cricket Club and Cricket Victoria will host Her Majesty, at a training session at the Bill Lawry Indoor Centre and at an afternoon tea in the MCC Committee Room.

As Patron of the Australian Himalayan Foundation’s Girls Education Program in Bhutan, Her Majesty will be welcomed to observe the cricket skills of young women in cricket including members of the Molly Strano and Emma Inglis development squads.

Cricket Without Borders coaches Bryce McGain and Sarah Elliott will lead the training session which will then be followed by an afternoon tea in the MCC Committee Room in Her Majesty’s honour.

Established in 2011, Cricket Without Borders promotes and develops the game of cricket for young women, generally aged between 15 and 19, in the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship, cultural diversity and friendship.

“Cricket Without Borders strives to provide opportunities for young girls not just with their cricket but life in general through travel and cultural experience, work experience opportunities and, as with the Queen Mother visit, see sport and in our case cricket as a vehicle to empower young girls to strive for improvement in their lives,” Cricket Without Borders Director Ken Jacobs said.

“We don’t exist to compete with traditional cricket programs but work with the likes of the ICC, Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria to have more girls involved in the sport.”
