Club capacity and workforce development grants announced

105 Victorian clubs will share in almost $250,000 worth of funding for projects such as new equipment, pitch upgrades, practice net repairs, rollers, mowers, pitch covers, first aid equipment, coaching courses, shading and more.

The Minister for Sport, John Eren, said “Victoria is the nation’s cricket capital, and we want to stay that way. By investing in the grassroots, we’re helping more Victorians play the game they love, and perhaps unearthing the next international star.”

Cricket Victoria’s CEO Tony Dodemaide said, “The $12.4 million Community Cricket Program; On Common Ground demonstrates the strong partnership between the Victorian Government, Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia to grow our national summer pastime.”

“With the second highest participation numbers in Australia, Victoria’s cricketers will benefit from these grants which will help to upskill coaches and volunteers, provide equipment for new participants to club cricket and support the maintenance of pitches and cricket nets all over Victoria.”

Clubs are already demonstrating the value of the grants in the current 2016/17 season with Melbourne University Cricket Club providing much needed equipment for their women’s cricket team, Edinburgh Cricket Club securing a peg-down synthetic pitch to provide a playing field for their growing number of junior teams, and Mountain Gate Cricket Club upgrading the surface and run-ups of their practice nets to improve the safety and condition for their players.
