Coach Force takes off

In a new club support initiative coordinated by Cricket Victoria, Coach Force is available to all cricket clubs across the state and aims to assist clubs in player development at both junior and senior level.

On Monday night, 12 cricketers between the ages of 15 and 21 gathered at Mount Martha Cricket Club to engage in Coach Force’s inaugural session.

Former Premier Cricket coach Steve Maddocks held a one hour and forty-five minute batting session that combined a range of batting techniques and drills used at higher levels.

“They were a very keen and enthusiastic group,” Maddocks, who is a current specialist coach at St Kilda Cricket Club, said.

“Hopefully we gave them some tools that they can use throughout the season.”

The batting session encouraged both players and coaches of Mount Martha to further develop their cricketing and coaching skills while adding to their current training regime.

“I found the session really worthwhile,” Mount Martha senior coach Curtis Stone said.

“The session left us with ways to improve on skills over time.”

Coach Force is a user-pays program that incorporates sessions tailored to all aspects of the game including batting, bowling, wicket-keeping and fielding.

“This won’t just be a one-off,” Stone said.

“We want to reinforce what we learnt in this session and take it to the next level.”
