Designed to introduce cricket to Melbourne’s Chinese population, the initiative will take place in Mt Waverley each Sunday from 11 am- 12pm.
The six week program has already been running for two weeks with 19 children taking part in the initial clinics and 15 enrolled for the duration of the program.
Yuzhou Lin, the Assistant Coach for the Chinese National Cricket Team, will co-ordinate the program and assist Cricket Victoria staff and participants throughout the six weeks.
The Cricket Australia level two accredited coach, alongside his mother Junxi Su have been instrumental in breaking down language barriers and translating promotional material for the program to get key messages across to potential participants.
“We believe the kids and parents learnt a great deal about the game of cricket and had a fun active experience,” said Chris Harris, Cricket Victoria’s Country Game Development Manager.
“Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia are very excited to have this program launched and look forward to its expanding to a number of centres in the coming years,” he said.
