Cricket Victoria supports junior female development projects

Each of the associations have committed to growing girls’ cricket at a junior level through initiatives that include the establishment of junior girls’ competitions, coach and umpire development, purchasing of equipment and marketing and promotion.

Of the 18 associations, three – Eastern Cricket Association, Inner South East Cricket and Western Region Junior Cricket Association – received their funding to support the sustainability of their existing competitions.

Following last week’s launch of the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), the Junior Female Development Grant aims to build a solid foundation for girls’ cricket at local level.

With two Victorian teams in the WBBL – Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars – the competition will provide a clear pathway for female cricketers from grassroots to elite with the Junior Female Development Grant supporting the pathway by enabling more opportunities for girls to play cricket at grassroots level.

“The introduction of the WBBL brings a lot of excitement to the development of female cricket in Victoria and it’s great to see so many associations encouraging girls to play cricket through the funded projects,” Cricket Victoria’s Grants Committee Chair Sue Crow said.

“The Junior Female Development Grant will assist our associations and Cricket Victoria in working together to increase participation with the aim of cricket being the sport of choice among females.”

The 18 successful associations are:
