Cricket Victoria toasted at Pride in Sport Awards

Further to the organisation’s overall award, Cricket Victoria’s Community Engagement Manager Emma Staples was awarded the LGBTI Ally Award for her work driving the organisation’s Proud Cricket program.

Cricket Victoria CEO Andrew Ingleton was delighted with the recognition.

“I congratulate Emma on her fantastic contribution to cricket and to the sporting community more broadly. She continues to drive pioneering opportunities for LGBTI inclusion through our growing Proud Cricket program and this award is just reward for Emma’s time and energy in bringing those ideas to life,” Ingleton said.

“As an organization more broadly we are delighted to receive the award of the Highest Ranked State Sporting Organisation. We set out not only to embody an inclusive environment ourselves but to demonstrate the benefits of an inclusive approach to our wider community and help to effect change,” Ingleton added.

The Pride in Sport Index is an initiative of the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Australian Sports Commission and a legacy of the Bingham Cup, Sydney.

The Pride in Sport Index™ (PSI) is the first and only benchmarking instrument specifically designed to assess the inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI) people within Australian sport and sporting organisations.

Participating in the index will allow Australian sporting organisations to not only assess their own practice, but determine that which constitutes good practice, along with the ability to benchmark their own initiatives against an external measure and other sporting organisations.
