The free two-hour seminars have been designed to assist in educating volunteer and local government appointed curators, coaches, and players about the preparation of turf pitches and surrounds, with Burdett to also host a session in Melbourne.
Staged from February 25 to March 1, Burdett will visit Geelong, Warrnambool, Footscray, Traralgon, Bairnsdale, Wodonga and Shepparton.
Supported by the Sports Turf Association (Victoria) and the Victorian Country Cricket League (VCCL), Burdett will tour regional Victoria for a successive season, imparting his vast knowledge across the state.
“He is the oracle when it comes to management and construction of turf cricket wickets,” Cricket Victoria Country Game and Market Development Manager Chris Harris.
“It will predominately be a hands-on practical experience presented by Les, who has knowledge second to none in this field and backs it up with his great presentation style.”
Burdett joined the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) in 1969, becoming head curator at the Adelaide Oval in 1978, before earning a worldwide reputation as one of the game’s finest curators.
Burdett’s peerless reputation was universally enshrined in 1987 when he was invited to oversee the production of pitches for the inaugural World Cup on the sub-continent – won by Australia, before retiring in 2010 after 41 years at the SACA.
“Les brings a lot to the table for our country cricket volunteers,” VCCL Presidrent Warren Riches said.
“He is passionate about the importance of good playing surfaces for developing country cricket talent.”
The Cricket Curator Education Tour of Victoria will take place from Monday, February 25 to Friday, March 1, 2013.
