State champions crowned at the 鈥楪

Over the course of the season, more than 250 secondary schools participated in the modified competition with 549 boys’ and 361 girls’ teams entering from across the state.

In the Year 9-10 girls’ final, Hamilton-based Monivae College prevailed over Wonthaggi Secondary College in a closely fought affair.

The exciting clash produced some exceptional cricket from both sides, with Wonthaggi posting 134 before Monivae clinched the title with a score of 154.

In the Year 9-10 boys’ section, a fine all-round performance from Geelong Grammar School led to victory over Lavalla Catholic College, with Christian Nicholas proving one of the heroes.

It was a happier story for Lavalla in the Year 8 girls’ division, however, with the Gippsland-based outfit producing a blistering batting display against Merebin to post a match-winning total of 2-161.

Jade Chapman was economical with the ball for Merebin, but some late-order hitting from Kasey Guttridge saw her side home.

Koo Wee Rup and St Josephs played out a high-scoring match in the Year 8 boys’ age group.

Batting first, St Josephs set a formidable target of 206 which proved too much for Koo Wee Rup, who put up a fight in reply but eventually fell 22-runs short.

In the Year 7 boys’ division, Trinity posted 184 on the back of 40 bonus runs and some sublime batting from Bryce McDonald, who was equally adept on the front and back foot.

In reply, Cranbourne East fell 30 runs short of victory.

Bendigo South East College prevailed over Dromana in the Year 7 girls’ final after defending its total of 2-102, with the Mornington Peninsula outfit managing 4-79 in reply.

Cricket Victoria would like to congratulate this year’s state champions, finalists and participants.
