Victoria wins National ID team title

The Victorians faced South Australia at McDonald Reserve in Belmont, keeping the visitors to 6-126 from their 20 overs.

SA batsman Chris McQueen made an outstanding 84 off 54 to push the total past 120.

In reply, Victorian batsman Gavan Hicks continued his excellent form, plundering 88 off 66 balls to take the Victorians to the title with a ball to spare.

When asked how it felt to be wearing the Big V in the final, Captain Lachlan MacRae said,

“It feels great, I never would have thought that I’d actually have this opportunity.”

The Men’s ID team coach Tom Ewing was quick to point out how the player’s benefit beyond winning the tournament,

“… to make new mates, to come together and feel like a professional team is so good for them” he said

“…coming together as a community, supporting and encouraging the disabled athletes do what they love to do is fantastic.”

The men’s ID team had an outstanding tournament, only dropping one game to South Australia in Round 5.

Victoria had three other teams competing in the championships.

Both the men’s blind and deaf teams went down to South Australia in the semi-final, while the women’s deaf team won one and lost one in their two games against South Australia.

Congratulations to the men’s ID team and to all those involved with the National Cricket Inclusion Championships.
