Warrnambool East crowned national champs

Defeating the Australian Capital Territory’s St Raphael’s 197-80, the girls took home the top prize after producing dominant performances throughout the day.

“It was absolutely fantastic to get the win,” Warrnambool East coach John Millard said.

“The girls started their preparation on the first day of term four, training at lunchtimes at school.

“They’ve learnt a lot and have really picked up the skills, developing over time.”

Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars and VicSpirit captain Meg Lanning was also in attendance on the day, awarding teams with their trophies and also umpired the final.

Warrnambool East’s Grace Farrer noted the special opportunity of meeting Lanning as well as playing on the hallowed turf of the MCG.

“It was a great experience and it was really great playing against schools from around Australia and playing on the MCG,” Farrer said.

Representing Victoria in the boy’s competition was St John’s Euroa who defeated Radford, 176-102 in the final for fifth place.

Cricket Victoria Schools Coordinator Ryan Batchelder acknowledged that the carnival provided primary schools with a great opportunity to test their skills against the best teams around the country.

“MILO T20 Blast School Cups are all about boys and girls participation and having fun,” Cricket Victoria Schools Coordinator Ryan Batchelder said.

“However, it is fantastic to see two schools from Victoria get the chance to play on the MCG against schools from all over Australia.

“Hopefully this was an experience that these teachers and students will never forget.”
