Imparja Cup team to face Victoria Police

Just a fortnight out from the Alice Springs campaign, which has evolved into one of the nation’s most cherished sporting carnivals that celebrates indigenous culture and cricket, Noogal Toengorrt Tani has been provided with the perfect opportunity to gel in the middle with a friendly against the Victoria Police Cricket Team.

Following the match, a cap presentation will be held to acknowledge the 14-man squad selected to represent Victoria this season, along with a further five female players who have been named in an invitational team created by Cricket Australia.

Sponsored by InfoReady and the Australian Government’s Indigenous Sport and Active Recreation Program, Sunday’s Twenty20 encounter at Camberwell Sports Ground is an opportunity for Victoria Police and the Indigenous community to strengthen their ties through sport.

“Not only will it be a good opportunity for us to get some practice in ahead of the Imparja Cup, but the event will also help us create a strong link to Victoria Police,” Noogal Toengorrt Tani captain Ben Abbatangelo said.

“There is no better way to build that relationship than through the use of sport.”

Commander Ashley Dickinson will be in attendance on the day, tossing the coin ahead of the match.

The Victorian Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, the Hon. Jeanette Powell, MP, and Wurundjeri elder, Aunty Joy, will also be in attendance and will take part in the cap presentation.

Noogal Toengorrt Tani will travel to Alice Springs from February 17 to 23 to compete in the 2013 Imparja Cup tournament.

Sunday’s event details include:

WHEN: Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 11 to 2pm. Cap presentation from 2.30pm

WHERE: Camberwell Cricket Club, 420 Camberwell Road (Cnr of Bowen Street), Camberwell.
