Victoria’s women finish third at Indigenous Championships

After a seven-wicket defeat in their opening game against NSW, the Vics bounced back with wins against Queensland and Western Australia.

Winning the toss and batting first against Queensland, Victoria put together 6-105 from their 20 overs, Kareena Jacobsen-Logan the top scorer with 34.

Queensland was then routed for just 15 in reply thanks to a remarkable bowling performance from Victoria.

Jess Martin claimed 3-4, Kirra Cuskelly and Molly Ward both took 2-0 and Jacinta Goodger-Chandler picked up 1-3.

Victoria then claimed their second victory of the championships with a 42-run win over Western Australia.

After making 4-104 on the back of Goodger-Chandler (31) and Jacobsen-Logan (28), the Vics then turned in another impressive bowling performance to bundle WA out for 62.

Marlee Wandin took 4-4 and Goodger-Chandler showed her all-round prowess with 3-13 – Kirra Cuskelly and Simone Burridge claimed a wicket each.

Victoria was outclassed in their final match against the Northern Territorry, going down by seven wickets despite some impressive individual performances.

The Vics compiled 3-109 from their 20 overs, thanks to contributions from Fiona Hale (22), Merinda Hale (22), Jacobsen-Logan (18).

NT then ran down the total with relative ease, with Sally Moylan making her third half-century of the tournament.

Molly Ward was the pick of the Victorian bowlers with 2-14 from her four overs.

Jacinta Goodger-Chandler and Jess Martin were named in the 2016 NICC Women’s Blackcaps for their outstanding performances during the championships.

Goodger-Chandler scored 55 runs and claimed six wickets throughout the tournament, her best performances with both bat and ball coming against Western Australia (31 runs and 3-13).

Martin’s bowling was the highlight of her campaign, which included an impressive haul of 3-4 against Queensland.
