Australian Open Indoor Cricket Championships

Along with the Open Women, Victoria will compete in a further five divisions with the Open Men, Under-23 Men and Under-20 Men, as well as the Under-20 Women and Lords Taverners.

Having finished third last year, the Victorian Open Men’s side will be hoping to make further inroads and has been bolstered by the inclusion of former Commonwealth Bank Bushranger Clive Rose, who has been granted permission to compete at the carnival by Cricket Tasmania.

“I haven’t played for the past couple of years, so I’m looking forward to it,” Rose said.

“I find outdoor and indoor cricket quite similar, so it’s pretty easy for me to switch between the two.”

Hoping to claim back-to-back titles, the Open Women’s team has prepared well and will head in to the tournament with a strong side.

“We’ve all been training well and are excited to go up to Brisbane to defend the title,” Victorian Open Women’s captain Nicole Martin said.

Premier Cricketers Jarrod Munday and Lachlan King will step up from the under-17s boys’ team to compete in the Under-20 Men’s division, while the Under-20 Women’s squad features VicSpirit Pathway players Nicola Hancock (Western Spirit), Hannah Bailes and Holly Johnson (South East Bayside Breakers),  Maddy Mackin and Jami Turnbull (Gippsland Pride), Addy Campion (Northern Falcons) and Olivia Aing (Outer East Eagles).

The 2013 Australian Open Indoor Cricket Championships will be held in Brisbane from July 20 to 27 at the Strathpine Indoor Sports Centre.
