Strong Victorian Presence in World Indoor Cricket Federation鈥檚 Junior All-Star Teams

With the Aussies claiming titles in all four divisions, selectors gave them the nod as a sign of just how impressive their efforts were last week.

Of the 25 Aussie representatives across the four sides, seven are from Victoria alone and feature two Player of the Series winners.

In the Under-14 side, Kevin Seth, Jordan Hesline and Jake Fraser-McGurk (Australia Captain) are joined by fellow Victorian and series MVP Ben Lammardo, while in the Under 16’s Sashin Garber and Ryan Peter-Budge, another player of the series and team Captain, make up more Vic presence.

Maddie Wright from the Australia A side also earned a position amongst elite company in the Under-18 Girls All-Star squad.

The four titles claimed by the boys and girls in each division was the goal from the start of the tournament, and Cricket Australia’s Indoor Cricket Manager Paul Milo said all those involved should be proud of their efforts.

“It is a real credit to all the players, coaches and staff that have coordinated this effort in the months leading up to now”, said Mr Milo.

To add to that, Mr Milo praised Victoria’s strong presence in the Indoor game, which has provided a great platform for transitioning into outdoor and open level cricket further down the track.

“Victoria make up almost 50% of Junior Indoor Cricket participants and some of the best started at this level; it’s a great pathway towards a professional level.”

Australian Captains Steve Smith and Meg Lanning, as well as ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 winners and Victorians Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell are just a few who have played Indoor Cricket as part of their Australian Cricket pathway.

The next Junior World series in 2018 will be held in United Arab Emirates, and may feature more international Indoor Cricket talent from England, India, Sri Lanka and the Middle East.

Many of this year’s younger participants will still be eligible for the 2018 championship, and with more indoor teams in Australia than outdoor, there are plenty of opportunities for young Aussies to have a chance of representing Australia at the international level.
