The Victorians finished top of the ladder but Queensland blitzed them early in the Final, winning they first skin 50-20, and the visitors were unable to peg back the difference, eventually going down 122-105.
Cricket Victoria Indoor Cricket Participation Officer Paul Gilchrist said that the under-23’s performance was encouraging for the future.
“The future of the Victorian Open Men’s division looks bright with the under 23 men’s completing their tournament as runners up in a close final,” Gilchrist said.
Perennial indoor cricket super power Queensland proved a class above in all divisions, clean sweeping all six titles, including the Open Men and Women’s, Under-23 Men, Under-20 Men and Women’s and the Lords Taverners.
“They are a very well-coordinated state and that truly showed throughout the competition,” Gilchrist said.
Former Commonwealth Bank Bushranger Clive Rose was selected as a member of the Australian Indoor Cricket team along with teammate Lance MacDougall.
Victorian Open Women’s captain Nicole Martin was also selected to represent Australia as well as Briony Polkinghorne, Danielle Montague and Jess Surace.
Both teams will tour South Africa in late September.
