The grants will inject over $56,000 into 15 local cricket facilities projects that will assist with upgrading playing and practice facilities in drought-affected communities.
Drought Response Grants – Minor Facilities are an initiative of the Community Cricket Program: On Common Ground.
This is a significant four-year partnership between Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and the Victorian Government to support cricket participation growth in Victoria.
In response to the drought over the 2015-16 summer, the grants were developed to support communities in country Victoria that have suffered financially as a result of the extreme conditions.
Cricket, and sport in general, provides an important social outlet for country communities experiencing the hardships of drought.
It is important to ensure that community cricket facilities are maintained to ensure ongoing playing and practice opportunities while bringing communities together during difficult times.
Local councils also play an important role in supporting local cricket clubs and their members and it is in partnership with these rural councils that the following projects will be supported.
