The two-year partnership will engage both grassroots cricket clubs through road safety education and training programs, and cricket fans with a TAC presence and activities at all state and international cricket played at the MCG and Big Bash cricket played at Etihad Stadium this season.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety, the Hon. Luke Donnellan MP said “whether you’re a weekend cricketer, club volunteer or a fan of the Victorian and Australian cricket teams, we all have a role to play in ensuring no one is killed or seriously injured on our roads.”
Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers captain Peter Handscomb echoed the Minister’s important message to the public.
“This is a great new partnership and an important one over the busy summer holiday season. We’re all working to take the road toll towards zero – we want everyone driving to the cricket this summer to get there and home again safely.”
The partnership’s programs are aimed at club players, supporters and their family members, encouraging leadership and empowering them to communicate Towards Zero values.
These programs include Towards Zero training sessions for Cricket Victoria players involved in the men’s and women’ academies, Victorian Country, Victorian Metro and state teams; encouraging parents of teenagers engaged in CV’s programs to complete the Safer P-Platers e-learning module; and leadership sessions for U/19 and U/17 CV Academy players via the Reach Foundation.
TAC Director of Engagement Guy Britt said “Our partnership with Cricket Victoria will significantly increase our capacity to deliver road safety education programs across Victoria, helping prevent deaths and serious injuries on our roads.”
