McMaster and Blows nominated for Commonwealth Bank Future Star Award

McMaster has been very impressive in the initial rounds of the Victorian Premier Cricket competition whilst playing for Dandenong.

Claiming 12 wickets in seven First XI games at an average of 23.58, the young fast bowler has shown that he can compete with some of Victoria’s best cricketers.

He has already taken two three-wicket hauls – 3-36 against Northcote in round five and a remarkable 3-6 from eight overs against Ringwood in round four.

The right arm quick’s performances earned him a place in the Victoria Country squad, which will take part in the Under 19 National Championships in Adelaide starting on November 30.

Playing most of her cricket for Workers Gol Gol in the Sunraysia Cricket Association, Blows has already played Second XI and Third XI in the men’s competition and in the Workers women’s team this season.

She has hit 80 runs in three games in the Workers Third XI with a top score of 47, whilst she has dominated the women’s competition, scoring 150 runs in five games having only been dismissed once.

Blows played with Box Hill in the Women’s Premier Cricket competition last season, playing alongside Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning – a former winner of the Commonwealth Bank Future Star Award.

Having already represented Victoria at Under 15 and Under 18 level, Blows has again been selected in Victoria’s squad for the Under 18 National Championships in January.

Introduced in 2005-06, the Commonwealth Bank Future Star Award is presented each season to the best under-19 Victorian male and female player based on the their form at Premier Cricket level and at the National Championships, with nominations selected by a panel of committee members on a monthly basis.

Past winners of the award include Aaron Finch, Meg Lanning and Jessica Cameron, who have all represented Australia.

The winners of the Commonwealth Bank Future Star Award will be crowned at the Cricket Victoria State Awards at the end of March.
