Quiney ends first-class career on a high

The 35 year-old left-hand batsman made his unofficial debut for Victoria in 2005 in a warm-up match against the ICC World XI at Junction Oval, where he faced the world’s best bowlers including Shoaib Akhtar, Shaun Pollock, Muttiah Muralitharan, Daniel Vettori and Makhaya Ntini.

Quiney earned an official call up not long after, debuting for Victoria in January 2006 in a Twenty20 clash with Western Australia. Quiney then earned his List A and First-Class caps the following season in November 2006 and February 2007 respectively – highlighting his talent across all formats of the game.

Quiney went on to amass 5674 runs in 96 first-class matches at an average of 36.84, including 11 centuries and 25 half-centuries, and a high score of 153.

In total, Quiney played 252 matches for Victoria across all formats, as well as two Test matches for Australia in late 2012 against South Africa, becoming Test cap no. 429.

Cricket Victoria General Manager of Cricket Shaun Graf said Quiney has made a substantial contribution to Victorian cricket over his career, which has spanned more than a decade.

“Rob Quiney has been a tremendous figure in Victorian cricket throughout his highly decorated career,” said Graf.

“He embodies all of Victoria’s values and it’s a testament to his skill and character that he’s been able to achieve so much success as a player, particularly playing in our five most recent Sheffield Shield titles including the three-peat.”

“We wish Rob all the best in his future endeavours, and thank him again for his contribution to Victorian cricket.”

Quiney remains an inaugural member of the Melbourne Stars’ Big Bash League squad and has competed in every season since.

He finishes his decorated Victorian career with five Sheffield Shield titles (2008-09, 2009-10, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17), three Twenty20 titles (2006-07, 2007-08, 2009-10) and a One-Day (2010-11) title for Victoria.

His individual accolades include winning back-to-back Bill Lawry Medals (2010-11, 2011-12) for most outstanding Victorian Sheffield Shield player of the season, a Dean Jones Medal (2011-12) for most outstanding Victorian One-Day player of the season, and the State Player of the Year award at the 2012 Allan Border Medal.
