Russell Thomas elected as new CV Chairman

Previously serving as CV’s Deputy Chairman, and currently a Program Manager within the Information & Communication Technology Industry, Mr Thomas was appointed to the Cricket Victoria Board in 2009.

Mr Thomas holds the position of Chairman of CV’s Development Committee and is CV’s representative to the Cricket Australia Development Committee. He also Co-Chairs the Victorian Indigenous Cricket Advisory Committee (VICAC).

Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer, Tony Dodemaide, welcomed the appointment of Mr Thomas and was looking forward to further growing the game in Victoria under his guidance.

“Russell has contributed a huge amount to the cricket community here in Victoria and comes with great experience, being involved in the sport at Board level since 2009.

“With work on Junction Oval about to commence it’s an exciting time for Cricket across the state and we welcome Russell to this position as we look to continue to grow the sport,” said Mr Dodemaide.

Mr Thomas has more than 30 years’ experience within cricket as a player (over 300 games at Premier Cricket level in all XIs) and administrator with both the Collingwood and Camberwell Magpies Cricket Clubs. Until recently, he was also President of the Camberwell Magpies Cricket Club. He played fifteen 1st XI matches, was a right-hand batsman and part-time spin bowler.

Mr Thomas said it was an honour to become Chairman of Cricket Victoria and promised that CV will continue to play a leading role in the promotion and development of the game.

“It is an honour to be confirmed as the Chairman of the Cricket Victoria,” said Mr Thomas.

“I will be looking to continue Geoff’s great work in strengthening the foundations of our sport, both on and off the field. I want to ensure that cricket retains and grows its popularity, and that Cricket Victoria plays a leading role in this growth in the state, nationally and globally.”

Paul Jackson was elected to position of Deputy Chairman. A Banking and Finance Executive, Mr Jackson was appointed to the CV Board in 2007.

He is currently Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee and Premier Cricket Expansion Strategy Committee, as well as a member of the Finance & Investment Committee.

The Board also awarded former CV Chairman Geoff Tamblyn life membership at proceedings, having served as Chairman since 2001 and was at the forefront of significant governance reform in Australian cricket during that time.
