Victorian Islamic Schools take part in Harmony School Cup

Students enjoyed a wide range of activities that focused on key cricket skills, including bowling, batting, catching and running.

Following the skills sessions, students took part in a round robin tournament, the Harmony School Cup, which saw nine schools participate and two finalists play off for the championship.

The tournament was a wonderful opportunity for Muslim girls and boys from diverse backgrounds to play Australia’s national game, in a familiar and friendly environment.

Throughout the tournament, participants also had the opportunity to meet International cricketer from Kuwait, Maryam Omar.

The winners of the tournament for the boys was Darul Ulum, whilst Al Siraat College claimed the title for the girls.

“Cricket is a fantastic game and a brilliant vehicle for these girls and boys to not only become involved in their local community at club level but to also meet people from different cultures, which I believe is crucial,” Cricket Victoria Multicultural Participation Officer Hussain Hanif said.

“I was impressed by the talent from the females, we could see they really enjoyed themselves and are already looking forward to next years Cup.”

The Victorian Government also got involved, with Vicky the government truck attending the event. The students were treated to an interactive digital experience, that promotes multiculturalism.
