Cricket Victoria supports grassroots game with Community Cricket Grants

Cricket Victoria has announced the successful applicants for its Community Cricket Grants Program, with over 92 clubs from around the state sharing in $200,000 worth of funding with a focus on developing club’s facilities and capacity, as well as boosting participation and community engagement.  A number of the successful projects were supported by the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund (ACIF), through minor facility upgrades.

The grants will help in a range of projects across Victoria, with both regional and metropolitan clubs and associations benefiting from pitch repairs, funding for first-aid courses and software.

The funding will also be used for necessary equipment such as facility upgrades to improve or replace synthetic wickets, develop training facilities and provide helmets and gear to assist with creating junior girls and women’s teams.

Rohan O’Neill, General Manager Community Cricket of Cricket Victoria said,

“We are delighted that the Community Cricket Grants Program has been able to support so many great initiatives within our local clubs and associations.”

“It’s pleasing that over half the funding has gone to projects that look to increase the capacity of clubs and associations, helping cricket become A Sport for All Victorians.”

Equipment upgrades will be used to boost the participation in women’s cricket, while practice facility improvements, pitch upgrades and first aid training are key to maintaining player safety standards both at training and during games.

Graeme Johnson, Secretary of the Seville Cricket Club, spoke about how the Community Cricket Grants Program will help their club,

“The grant made available to the Seville Cricket Club from Cricket Victoria has enabled the refurbishment of the practice wicket nets to be completed. This will allow safe and continued use of this facility by all club members and the local community.”

“We are very grateful to Cricket Victoria for their assistance in this important infrastructure project that will enable the continual growth of the great game by everyone who can now enjoy these upgraded facilities.”
