Monash Tigers claim white-ball title

Former Victorian captain Cameron White (62) steered the Tigers to the Demons’ total of 148, after only Alex Keath (81) passed 30 for Melbourne.

The game was delayed by 45 minutes due to overnight and morning rain with the match reduced to 44 overs.

Monash captain Allan Wise seized on the bowler friendly conditions and sent the Demons into bat.

Melbourne’s top three of Andrew Kent (29), Matthew Brown (15) and Keath negotiated a tough opening period to see their side to 1-56 before Kent’s wicket triggered a huge collapse.

Keath watched from the non-strikers end as the Demons crashed to 9-90 with former Victorian player Will Sheridan the main destroyer with 3-28.

Tailender Nick Quinn was able to bat for 42 minutes alongside Keath as he lifted the run rate with three boundaries and three sixes in his innings of 81 from 115 deliveries.

The pair put on 58 before Quinn was run out from the penultimate ball of the innings.

Keath also struck with an early wicket, removing Daniel Sartori for three.

Sheridan struck a rapid 25 (37) before succumbing to former Ryder Medallist Brenton McDonald when the score was on 41.

White then took over, putting on a 101-run partnership with Sam Taylor (38).

White was dismissed with the target in sight before Dan Christian (4) completed the job with seven overs remaining.

Keath was named Player of the Final for his 81* and 1-29.

In other grades, Carlton defeated Essendon in a thriller in the Seconds Final, St Kilda beat Monash Tigers in the Thirds while the Fourths Final between Northcote and Essendon was washed out.
