Having served as third umpire for the past two Shield finals, Ward, who made his international debut earlier this year, has been rewarded after another fine summer in the first-class arena.
South Australia’s Simon Fry will share on-field duties with him, while Western Australia’s Mick Martell will act as the third umpire and Bob Stratford as the match referee.
Over the past two seasons, Ward has stood in three domestic finals, including last year’s KFC T20 Big Bash League decider between Sydney Sixes and Perth Scorchers, and was also third umpire for the 2010-11 RYOBI One-Day Cup decider.
The Tigers will host the Bulls, the defending champions, during coach Tim Coyle’s final match at the helm, with former Test captain Ricky Ponting also undecided as to whether he will continue his stellar first-class career next season.
The Shield Final will be staged from Friday, March 22 to Tuesday, March 26.
