Peter Handscomb, Todd Murphy (Prime Minister’s XI), Marcus Harris (PM’s XI & Australian Test squad) and Scott Boland (Test squad) will miss the match due to national commitments.

Nic Maddinson will captain the side in Peter Handscomb’s absence. Maddinson is the current captain of the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League and has previously captained New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield.

The match could see potential Sheffield Shield debuts for Sam Elliott, Campbell Kellaway and Jack Prestwidge. All three players have performed strongly in Second XI and Victorian Premier Cricket matches this season.

“It’s always exciting when Victorian players are called up for higher honours, it’s especially pleasing to see Pete and Marcus called up after exceptional starts to the season with the bat,” Cricket Victoria’s Head of Male Cricket, David Hussey said.

“Todd’s selection is also an exciting one, we believe Todd can play Test cricket in the near future and this will provide him with another opportunity to push his case after a successful tour of Sri Lanka with Australia A.

“Missing those players provides an opportunity for others, Sam, Campbell and Jack all offer different skill sets but have all equally impressed through Second XI or Premier Cricket performances.

“All three have played a part in our Marsh Cup campaign and we look forward to at least two of them making their Sheffield Shield debut.”

Jon Holland returns to the squad after recovering from a calf strain, while Mitch Perry has been omitted.

Jono Merlo has taken a short break from the game due to personal reasons and is currently unavailable for selection.
