The team was scheduled to commence its summer at home, with a number of Marsh One-Day Cup games originally fixtured in mid-September at the CitiPower Centre.

However, those have been postponed due to the current Covid situation.

A fixture update is yet to be confirmed for the Victorian team, which will continue to train in Melbourne as it waits to see who, when and where it will be playing.

“As you can imagine, it’s a very interesting situation,” Handscomb told RSN Breakfast Club on Wednesday morning.

“We’re trying to find out if we can actually get out of Victoria and find a place to quarantine to be able to play against the other states to get our season started.

“It’s a shame it’s another year gone and we’re in the same situation as last year, but there’s not a lot that we can do.

“We’re still very lucky that we’ve been able to train and play and got our season in last year – and we’re going to get our season in this year as well.

“Whatever we have to do to get out and play and get this season going, we’re happy to do it and we’re ready for it.”

Despite the delayed start to the season, the Victorians will spend some time in the middle on turf over the next fortnight at the CitiPower Centre.

“It was great to get out yesterday – we played a 40-over intra-squad game at Junction Oval,” Handscomb said.

“It was nice for the boys to be able to get some game time into their legs and into their bodies, because with the original season we would have started last week. We were primed and ready to go (for that).

“We’ve got another one-day game today and hopefully next week we can play a three-day game and that will get us ready for – hopefully – starting the season a few weeks after that.”
