Ashkenazi returns for Aussie U-19s

Having made his debut in New Zealand in March, Ashkenazi was overlooked for the recent International Series in Darwin but was included in a 14-man squad that is bound for the sub-continent in September which includes Ringwood firebrand Matt Fotia and Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers rookie Guy Walker.

South Africa and Zimbabwe will also participate in the tournament.

“This Quad Series in India is part of our preparation for next year’s ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup,” Cricket Australia National Talent Manager Greg Chappell said.

“This series continues our comprehensive Under-19 program to ensure our emerging talent is exposed to international competition and conditions that challenge and build our players technically and mentally.

“A number of these players have already had a taste of international cricket against top quality opposition.

“This year, our Under-19s played New Zealand in New Zealand, as well as India in Darwin. Matthew Fotia also worked with Glenn McGrath at his MRF Pace Foundation academy in India.

“We’ve selected a strong bowling contingent, with Cameron Valente’s clever medium pace variations and quality pace bowlers in Matthew Fotia, Ben Ashkenazi, Guy Walker and Billy Stanlake.”

Following the Quad Series in India, Australia will continue its preparations for next year’s Under-19 World Cup with a tour of Sri Lanka.

The Quad Series will be held in India from September 23 to October 5, 2013.
