Let the battle begin

The three-day tournament will see 10 metropolitan and country regions battle it out against each other in their quest for victory, with the highly anticipated Final to be played at the MCG in March.

Guiding the development of young cricketers, the pathway program provides the state’s most talented players with the opportunity to improve their skills and gain quality coaching in a competitive environment.

“It gives a great opportunity to develop young players,” under-18 state coach Duncan Harrison said.

“They can showcase their skills against the best players in the state.

“It also introduces players to Premier clubs and the fantastic grounds and facilities they have to offer.”

Having prevailed last summer, Gippsland Regional Cricket Manager Rob Wood said his team was keen to defend their title.

“If they perform to their potential they should be more than competitive,” Wood said.

“But it is always hard to predict because you never really know what opposition they will come up against.”

The Championships open with each team playing two Twenty20s before transitioning to one-day matches tomorrow and on Thursday.
