Split innings but same result

With artic conditions reducing the split-innings match to 28 overs per side, Metro completed its first 20-over block at 4-57 after winning the toss and electing to bat.

“Due to the conditions we had to keep changing the game structure and the girls did really well to adjust,” High Performance Academy under-15 coach John Hayes said.

A 55-run partnership between Georgia Wareham (30) and Bella Poon (25) provided Country with the upper hand, however, as they reached 5-95 at the changeover.

Having starred with the bat, Wareham showed her versatility with the ball as she claimed 2-17 from five overs to restrict Metro to 8-71 from 28 overs.

Country then batted on and reached 5-112 before stumps were called.

“Country Victoria proved to be stronger over the two days and were really good with both ball and bat,” Hayes said.

Due to unforeseen conditions, the series will continue with a training session at the Bill Lawry Indoor Centre at the MCG tomorrow.

“We just want to give the girls a good solid and uninterrupted session where we can revisit some areas from the past two days,” Hayes said.
