U-19 World Cup squad announced

The squad includes Commonwealth Bank Bushranger rookies Guy Walker and Matt Short, as well as Ejaaz Alavi, Jack Blain, Jack Taylor, Matt Fotia and Ben Ashkenazi who all enjoyed impressive showings at the recent National Championships in Hobart.

Under-19 Victorian coach Jarrod Loughman expressed his immense pride in those selected.

“We have the most representatives of any state, which is a tremendous credit to everyone involved with Victorian cricket,” Loughman said.

“It’s also a testament to the National Championships, which is a major stepping stone for those who go on to represent Australia.

“Even though we haven’t come out winners at this year’s carnival, to see our representatives make the Australian squad has made the experience worthwhile.”

In recent times, Bushrangers including Cameron White, Peter Siddle and James Pattinson have gone on to play Test Cricket after representing Australia at the Under-19 World Cup.
Australia will compete in Group B of the tournament against Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Namibia with the top two teams progressing to the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Super League quarter-finals.
Under ICC regulations, each country is required to submit a squad of 30 from which a final squad of 15 is selected to play in the Under-19 World Cup.
