The South East Bayside Breakers claimed their second piece of silverware after beating the Outer East Eagles in the male competition while, the Western Waves proved too strong for the Mallee Murray Heat in the female competition.
Having just been crowned the under-18 male state champions, the Breakers continued to impress, posting a score of 6-146, with strong contributions from Dane Heverin (49) and William Taylor (33*).
Callum Craigie top-scored with 25 in the Outer East Eagles’ run chase, however, the Breakers’ bowling attack proved too strong, dismissing the Eagles for 88.
To add to his batting performance, Taylor proved pivotal with the ball, claiming 0-4 from eight overs including four maiden overs to earn the Player of the Final award.
The female final was a distinctly different affair as a strong run chase from the Western Waves saw them take home the silverware.
Having been set 81 for victory, the Waves cruised home as Madi Ratcliffe ensured the total was reached with six overs in hand.
Ratcliffe was awarded with the Player of the Final gong after notching 41 before retiring and snaring 1-20 from her four overs.
VicSpirit captain, Emma Inglis, came along to the final to show her support to the girls.
“It was a good final. Madi batted real well and it was good to see Mallee Murray play in their first ever final,” Inglis said.
Outer East Eagles’ Joshua Hudson and the Northern Falcons’ Ben Roughsedge shared the boys’ player of the series award, while the Heat’s Makinley Blows took out the girls’ title.
